The premiere of Where Our Voices Meet, created within the international project Storyline Discovery and produced by Koper Theatre, DAH Theatre from Belgrade, and Theatron Theatre from Malmö, Sweden, opened the 6th International Children’s Festival Pri Svetilniku on 25 August.

Three cities. Three groups of young people. Three collections of stories, experiences and dreams. What began in Malmö, Koper and Belgrade as separate creative journeys gradually grew into a shared theatrical story. Until May 2026, young participants worked with their mentors in a series of theatre workshops, exploring their own experiences and transforming them into scenes, movement, sound and words. Each group created its own part of the performance, giving shape to stories rooted in their everyday lives, questions and perspectives.

In Koper, these three bodies of work came together. Through an intensive and collaborative creative process, the young participants and their mentors began to weave the separate scenes into a new dramaturgical whole. The desire was simple yet powerful: to bring everyone together on one stage and create a performance in which different voices could meet, listen to one another and speak together. The new dramaturgy emerged through the collective work of 25 young participants from Koper,  Malmö  and Belgrade, guided by their mentors and inspired by the stories created in all three cities. The result is not simply a combination of three performances, but a new shared work — a meeting place where different experiences, cultures and perspectives become part of the same theatrical journey.

Where Our Voices Meet is a celebration of connection: of young people finding their voices, discovering what they have in common, and recognising the richness of their differences. On stage, separate stories become one — a shared space where voices meet.

“Pri Svetilniku Festival in August was born from the desire to create encounters: between children and young people, between artists and the public, between imagination and reality. It is a place where we can take time for each other, stop for a moment and look at the world through someone else’s eyes.

This year’s edition carries a special message. Together with theatre professionals from Slovenia, Serbia, and Sweden, as part of the European Storyline Discovery project, we have collected young people’s stories. Stories that don’t seek perfection, but courage. The courage to tell their stories. To share them. To listen to them. From this journey was born the show “Where Our Voices Meet,” which opens this year’s Festival.
