Founded in 2001 under the direction of Katarina Pegan, Koper Theatre has become a vital part of Slovenia’s cultural scene, known for its openness to diverse artistic voices and distinctive directorial approaches. Its repertoire spans contemporary and classical works, with a focus on comedies infused with local, Mediterranean, and dialectal nuances, as well as world premieres of Slovenian plays for young audiences.
With a dedicated ensemble and frequent guest artists, the theatre has toured widely across Europe and South America, receiving numerous national and international awards.
In 2023, Koper Theatre expanded its mission by establishing the Svetilnik Children’s Theatre, dedicated to high-quality productions and creative education for children and youth. The program includes new performances each season, educational workshops, the International Festival Pri Svetilniku, and a children’s theatre school.
Through collaborations with more than 30 educational institutions, Koper Theatre promotes lifelong engagement with the performing arts, nurturing audiences from early childhood to adulthood and strengthening cultural education in Slovenia’s coastal region.
